Ann Arbor
On June 10 you can expect a conga line of eco-buffs at the
Mayor's Green Fair
, Ann Arbor's annual ode to preservation of our earthly resources. The venue now closes down four blocks of Main Street, a sea change from the one-block affair that dawned ten years ago. Last year nearly 120 exhibitors, from cycling and mass transit advocacy groups to energy audit providers to an electric vehicle builder, set up shop. The Friday evening event draws from 2,000 to 3,000 visitors, says fair coordinator Christine Schopieray.
Although organizers field plenty of inquiries from out-of-staters seeking a presence at the fair, the object, Schopieray says, is to promote Washtenaw County-based businesses and non-profits offering environmentally sound products and services. "What we wanted to do is bring the general populace the idea that there are sources right here so you can be a locavore."
Registration for exhibitors starts at the end of this month.
"It spans the whole gamut of everything we want to promote, so if nothing else our little pocket of Michigan will be healthier because of it," she adds.
