According to Dwight Carlson, CEO of Coherix, Ann Arbor is one of three places in the country "that are steeped in optical technology."

Makes sense when you consider that Emmett Leith and Juris Upatnieks created the
first holographic image via laser at U-M in 1962.

Coherix --a 40+ person company-- creates measuring systems for automotive and semiconductor manufacturers using advanced laser technologies and metrology. A growing company, it has its eye on aerospace and medical applications.
