Jefferson Market's In The Hood

When Ann Arbor's Jefferson Market closed its doors last year, its Old West Side neighbors moped for weeks over its absence. Gone were the delicious 'to go' meals and gourmet sandwiches. No longer could you send the kids down for an ice cream and plastic robot figure.

Then, like a Phoenix rising from the ashes, Mary Rassmussen stepped in with her vision of a cafe /bakery / market that offered locally produced dairy products and specialty foods alongside her trademark cakes; namely wedding cakes.

And the people of the Old West Side did rejoice. And feast. Even though no plastic robots were to be found.

Don't you love a happy ending?
