Ann Arbor’s University Village becomes 601 Forest, up for approval
Now that much of the hemming and hawing has passed, the city is starting to weigh in on the 601 Forest project (previously University Village). The city’s Planning Commission has recommended approving the project, which will go before the City Council for final approval later this summer.

The building will incorporate environmentally friendly construction techniques, materials and systems, such as passive solar technologies, advanced water recapture systems and a green roof. The developers, Hughes Properties and partner Omena Real Estate Investments, are going for LEED certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.
“If the developers receive the brownfield designation funding they will be much more aggressive with the green features,” says Tracy Koe Wick, a spokeswoman for the project.
