New toy museum opens in Chelsea Teddy Bear Co.
Everybody loves a teddy bear and loads of them will be on display in Chelsea later this month. The Chelsea Teddy Bear Co. just opened a new toy museum featuring lot of rare teddy bears and it will go for a Guiness World Record for larget teddy bear mosiac at the end of July.
We all have fond memories of the toys we grew up with, and now the evolution of those toys is on display at the Chelsea Teddy Bear Co. in downtown Chelsea.
The new Toy Museum is an addition to the firm’s downtown Chelsea factory, 400 N. Main St. in the historic Clock Tower. It features a number of rare and valuable toys and traces their history around the world. One of the teddy bears in the collection has only one other like it, which is on display in the Smithsonian. Admission to the museum is free.
The teddy bear, one of the most popular toys in the world since its debut more than century ago, will obviously be a big part of the museum. It’s inventor, Richard Steiff, lived in nearby Jackson where he is now buried.
The Chelsea Teddy Bear Company, a longtime institution in Chelsea, also offers free factory tours and will try to set a Guiness World Record on July 26 for the largest teddy bear mosaic. Anyone can contribute a teddy bear to the event and it will be used to create a large peace symbol mosaic in the firm’s parking lot. Bears will be returned to their owners after the officials measurement is taken.
