Plum Market construction nearly finished in Ann Arbor, to open in Feb.
Eating options in Ann Arbor are about to become a little more luxurious when the Plum Market opens in February. The specialty grocer will open a 28,000-square-foot facility in the Maple Village Shopping Center on the city’s northwest side.
When it comes to higher-end grocery stores, Ann Arbor is at top of the mountain in Metro Detroit. Whole Foods? Check. Trader Joe’s? Check. Plum Market? Tree Town residents will get a chance to check it out when it opens in mid February.
The specialty grocer is close to finishing up work on its new location in the Maple Village Shopping Center at the corner of North Maple Road and Dexter Avenue. It is taking the place of the former Foxtown movie theater.
“It’s a great location,” says Beth Ann Locke, director of marketing for Plum Market. “That side of town is an underserved market. For us it’s a great opportunity.”
Underserved when it comes to high-end groceries. Ann Arbor‘s Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s are located on the southeast side of town. The new Plum Market is being built on the northwest side of the city.
This will be the grocer’s second location. It’s first is in Bloomfield Township. There are also plans for one in downtown Royal Oak in the second phase of the Main North Lofts development and future ones throughout Metro Detroit.
The Ann Arbor store will be a full-service grocery store, featuring high-quality meat, seafood and produce, along with a large wine selection and restaurant-caliber prepared foods. The 28,000 square feet of space, substantially larger than the first location, will also have a full-service pharmacy.
