Completion date set for new environmental research lab in Ann Arbor

January. That’s the target date to finish the new Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory on the south side of Ann Arbor. The lab hopes to move researches in either by the end of this year or early next, depending on weather cooperates.

 

“It should be a really beautiful building,” says Jana Goldman, a spokeswoman for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association.

 

The 40,225-square-feet facility will house a combination of more than 100 federal and university employees. The Great Lakes Environmental Research Laboratory will share the space with a number of other smaller, partner organizations.

 

The new building will be twice as large as the current location, providing state-of-art wet and dry laboratories. It will also have new conference capabilities, including a 150-person lecture hall.

 

The laboratory is part of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, which focuses on issues such as invasive species, water levels and the health of lakes in the eight states and two Canadian provinces that border the Great Lakes.
