Local boy makes good… and sounds good doing it. Ann Arbor soul singer Mayer Hawthorne has signed with Universal’s imprint music label Republic. Excerpt: “After releasing his self-produced debut album ‘A Strange Arrangement’ in 2009 and receiving high praises, Hawthorne also spent much of the time performing and even DJing shows. Though going the independent route, he caught the attention of many due to his unique sound and approach to soul music.
