Video The Conversation: What is Pure Ann Arbor?

How do you capture the essence of a place? The Pure Michigan campaign focused its award-winning strategy on Ann Arbor this week, prompting the question: How do you sell our community to those who don't know it? Did the ad work for you? What did they forget to include? We want your thoughts.

If you think about it, we are all, at one time or another, ambassadors for our community. Every time we host an out-of-town visitor or welcome a relative into our home or tell a stranger about where we live, we begin selling them on the virtues of our community. When a guest comes to visit, we take them to certain restaurants or pubs, show them what’s special about our community.

Our sense of place is what defines us, sets us apart from the community down the road or across the state.

So, what is Ann Arbor’s sense of place to you? Did the Pure Michigan ad capture it?

Or put another way… if you wanted to convince someone how great our city is, how would you fill their weekend’s visit. Where would you bring them? What would you show them? What itinerary would convince them that, indeed, Ann Arbor is a wonderful place to live?

I’ve embedded below some videos (by outsiders and by locals) that attempt to capture the essence of our community. What would your video look like?
