T.S. Quatro begins work on green roof at its Ypsilanti headquarters
Ypsilanti is about to become a little bit greener now that T.S. Quatro has begun work building a green roof on its headquarters near downtown.
Todd Quatro’s business is really starting to grow in Ypsilanti, literally.
His company, T.S. Quatro, just began work installing the green roof on its headquarters at 201 North Park St. The roof is part of the design-and-build contracting firm plans to renovate its home as sustainably as possible.
T.S. Quatro has been in its building at Park and Lincoln streets –just east of downtown and Huron River– for 14 years. The two-story structure, built in the 1950s, will be capped with an intensive green roof covering 4,000 square feet.
The roof will be walkable and feature a deck. Quatro is also looking into adding a water-capturing system that would use the water run-off from the roof for non-potable purposes, such as flushing toilets.
The $1 million project is expected to wrap up by the end of the year and includes building a handful of brownstones behind the main building. Construction on those is set to begin next month.
“As long as the financing comes through,” Quatro says.
The group of four brownstones will be constructed on a Park Street lot behind the building. The all-brick structures will be approximately 2,000 square feet each with a one-car attached garage. Each will come with a balcony, front porch and hardwood floors. They will be offered first as rentals then sold as condos at a later date.
