Ann Arbor’s Citi Centre Lofts become 4 Eleven Lofts, construction begins

Talk to any of the spokespeople for the development formerly known as CitiCentre Lofts and expect a response similar to something South Park’s Officer Barbrady would say: “No news.”

After receiving several weeks of the runaround from a half dozen different officials at Chicago-based Joseph Freed Homes, the developer behind downtown Ann Arbor’s newest loft building claims ‘nothing to see, move along.’

Never mind that work crews have razed the old TCF Bank training center building and are prepping the fenced-off site at the corner of Division and Washington streets, behind the McKinley Towne Centre, for construction. Nevermind that the developer’s web site is now calling the development 4 Eleven Lofts. That’s not “news.”

Earlier this year, however, a Joseph Freed spokesman said a ground breaking on the development was set for September with construction wrapping up in May of 2009.

The 10-story building will house 106 apartments, ranging from 600 to 1,000 square feet. They will be marketed toward University of Michigan students and downtown professionals looking to experience the urban lifestyle of downtown Ann Arbor.

The building will also have 10,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space and 77 parking spaces in two floors of underground parking beneath the building. It is part of the McKinley Towne Centre complex, an impressive renovation of an office building and surrounding adjacent properties headed up by McKinley Inc, which farmed out the former CitiCentre Lofts project to Joseph Freed.

But none of that is news. Stay tuned for no further developments.
