Going green in Ann Arbor: cheaper and more comfortable

From the outside, Matt and Kelly Grocoff’s 107-year-old house on
In order to see what makes their place unique, you have to see their utility bills.
Since they moved into the house a year and a half ago, the former Californians have made mostly simple changes to bring their heating, cooling and hot water costs to about $525.
That’s per year.
On this, the 38th Earth Day, Matt Grocoff said it’s not only easy being green, it’s more comfortable.
“The reality is it’s more expensive not to green up,” said Matt, who notes that before renovations began, one monthly gas bill last winter was $350. “Our home is more comfortable, more durable and costs much less to operate than our neighbors. It is actually no more difficult than standard renovation.”
