Going green in Ann Arbor: cheaper and more comfortable

An Ann Arbor couple are proving that a green lifestyle equals more greenbacks. The pair’s Old West side home is so environmentally friendly it only costs them a few hundred dollars to heat and cool it each year.

Turns out being environmentally friendly is also pocketbook friendly. That’s what one Ann Arbor couple is discovering after lowering their utility bills to about $500 annually.

“The reality is it’s more expensive not to green up,” said Matt, who notes that before renovations began, one monthly gas bill last winter was $350. “Our home is more comfortable, more durable and costs much less to operate than our neighbors. It is actually no more difficult than standard renovation.”
