A drug some are calling the female Viagara is one step closer to market. Ophena, developed by Ann Arbor drug company QuatRX Pharmaceuticals Co., was designed to treat a post-menopausal condition that makes sexual activity difficult or painful. QuatRX recently reported good results from a late-stage study.

Excerpt: The company expects to meet soon with the Food and Drug Administration to discuss its second Phase 3 study – which would have to confirm the positive results of its first Phase 3 study. Some 826 women participated in the study at 80 medical centers throughout the country. QuatRx hopes to complete the final study and file a new drug application with the FDA by late 2009 or early 2010. Its first Phase 3 study took about 19 months.
