She’s the Michael Phelps of cake decorating. Meet Courtney Clark, owner of Kerrytown’s scrumpdillyiscious Cake Nouveau and reigning Cake Challenge Champion. From Honey Lavendar to Black Tie Coconut to Cinnamon Butterscotch, Courtney’s creations dare you to eat your cake and have it too.
Walk by Cake Nouveau and you can’t help but notice its Wonka-esque design scheme. It’s befitting a shop that pushes custom-flavored cupcakes (Dark Chocolate Pistachio anyone?) and elaborate cake designs. Heck, even their Myspace page loads with the song “Pure Imagination.”
How elaborate are their creations? Well, owner and bakery artist Courtney Clark has won the Food Network’s Cake Challenge Championship. Four times! And she’s going back for a fifth.
