Concentrate Speaker Event – Take Me To The River

Imagine paddling in your kayak from Ann Arbor to Lake Erie. Or up into Oakland County. Pretty cool, huh? The Huron River Watershed Council is hoping to create a 100-mile water trail that does just that. HRWC planner Elizabeth Riggs will speak at our next Concentrate Speaker event about what the trail, and the Huron, means for our community. Sign up now for this May 26th event.

The Huron River is, arguably, our greatest natural asset. From drinking water to recreation to ecological diversity, it provides the communities along its shores with their identity.

Now there’s talk of linking and better integrating the cities along the Huron with a 100-mile water trail. Such initiatives have been made around the state and they have lead to increased river tourism and opportunities for communities to create a better sense of place. Imagine a trail that easily allows kayakers to paddle from Ann Arbor up into Oakland County, and even on into Lake Erie. Pretty cool, huh?

At Concentrate’s MAY 26th speaker event, Elizabeth Riggs, a watershed planner for the Huron River Watershed Council, will talk about the proposed water trail — what it means for our communities economically, recreationally, and in terms of regional identity.

Elizabeth has been with the HRWC since 1999. For the last five years she’s been responsible for implementing priority projects in the middle and upper Huron, developing the Portage Creek watershed management plan, and coordinating case studies on protection and development rights. She’ll be directly involved with helping to develop the Huron River water trail.

After her talk she will gladly take your questions. Don’t miss this great community conversation!
