Downtown architecture tours to be held as part of Ann Arbor Green Fair

The story behind the buildings downtown will be told when local architects give tours of Ann Arbor’s city center during the Ann Arbor Green Fair on Friday evening.

Everyone likes to look at the pretty buildings in downtown Ann Arbor but most don’t know the story behind them. Well, here’s your chance. The American Institute of Architects’ Huron Valley chapter hosts a guided walking tour of downtown Ann Arbor as part of the Ann Arbor Green Fair.

Local architects will lead tours between 6 and 9 p.m. Friday. Each will be based on the chapter’s “Guide to Ann Arbor Architecture” brochure. They will be split into two sessions and highlight selected locations in the downtown and residential areas of the city.

All of the tours, which are free, will begin at the AIA booth at Main and Huron streets. The downtown tours will be held at 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. while the residential tour, which will focus on the Old West Side neighborhood, will begin at 7 and 8 p.m.

The Green Fair, in its eight year, is held on Main Street in downtown, which will be closed to regular automotive traffic. It features displays of environmental information, “green” products, bicycle events and live music.
