Construction is scheduled to begin on new set of Craftsman-style homes in Banyan Court this spring, now that the city of Ann Arbor has given its blessing.

Banyan Court is going to be one of the rare subdivisions built inside the freeway loop around Ann Arbor. The development is turning a nearly 3-acre lot on the city’s southwest side into an 8-home sub-division. The land, located on South Maple Road between Jade Court and Country Village Court, is vacant after an old ranch house that used to be on it was razed.

“Hopefully within a month (we will start construction),” says Alex de Parry, developer of Banyan Court and co-founder of Ann Arbor Builders. “They should all be pre-sold by then.”

Banyan Court will consist of a cul-de-sac straight back from the road and then build the single-family houses off of that street. The houses will range in size from a 1,600-square-foot ranch to a 2,200-square-foot two-story house. All of them will be made in a craftsman-style architecture. So far a couple have already been reserved.

“It’s a rare opportunity,” de Parry says. “We’re targeting a $400,000 price range for a brand new home.”

He adds that most of the inquiries are from people interested in downsizing to smaller homes with more finer finishes. The houses will utilize higher-end interior finishes, such as kitchen cabinets and tile work. De Parry describes them as “semi-custom” homes that have been so popular that he doesn’t have to advertise about them beyond what he posts on the company website.

“Word of mouth has been strong,” de Parry says.
