Emagine Entertainment plans to open movie theater in Saline

What was once a Saline grocery store is in the process of becoming a movie theater. Troy-based Emagine Entertainment is working to turn the former Farmer Jack/Country Market at 1335 E Michigan Ave into a nine-screen multiplex. Work is expected to begin in July with an eye of opening its doors in time for the holiday season.

“We think this is an underserved market,” says Paul Glantz, CEO of Emagine Entertainment. “There aren’t enough good opportunities to watch a movie for folks who live in the area.”

The 5,500-square-foot space is currently vacant. The new theater will feature new, state-of-the-art movie screens and a concession area with extensive options.

“We’re going to have fresh-made pizza and things of that nature,” Glantz says.

Emagine Entertainment has nine theaters across Metro Detroit. It opened a theater similar to this one in 2014 in former Kroger at 23 Mile and Hayes roads in Macomb County. The Saline theater will employ 30 people when it opens, putting Emagine Entertainment’s workforce at about 1,000 employees.

It is also working to open a new theater in the Chicago suburbs right now, which will bring the company’s total number of theaters to 11.
