EMU narrows presidential search to 4 candidates

It’s down to the final four contestants in the EMU presidency game. The university’s short list includes everyone from the former head of the Detroit Public Schools to state’s superintendent of public education.

Wanted: Man or woman to take Eastern Michigan University to the next level. The university’s leaders are closer to picking a president now that the list of candidates has been narrowed to four finalists.

The list of four finalists for the president’s job at Eastern Michigan University looks a tad unconventional — with a trial judge, a former Detroit school leader and the state’s top K-12 educator in the mix – but the board that initiated the search designed it that way.

 

“It is a very eclectic pool, when you look at the backgrounds of these people,” said Jim Stapleton, cochair of the search committee and a member of the EMU Board of Regents.

 

“Any of these four candidates … would be a good president.”
