If it’s big and it moves long distances, there is a good chance products designed or produced by InterClean Equipment have cleaned it.

The Ypsilanti firm has been designing and manufacturing vehicle-cleaning systems and equipment since 1984. And not just the sissy stuff used to wash everyday cars. Think the big machines, like trains, buses and industrial trucks.

It’s also in the process of creating a global presence for its products. Right now 40 people work out of Ypsilanti and another baker’s dozen are stationed around the country, and there are plans to hire 10-20 more people.

“We are in a growing stage right now,” says Mia Lamminen, president of InterClean. “We’re continuously hiring new people.”

It’s not hard to see why after looking at the company’s numbers. It’s sales have doubled in the last two years and it expects Lamminen expects them to double again in a couple years. Sales are in $50 million range, making InterClean a powerhouse in its industry.
