Susan Martin, provost and vice chancellor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn, was chosen Sunday as the 22nd president of Eastern Michigan University, the first woman to lead EMU in its 159-year history.

The decision was announced late Sunday afternoon by the EMU Board of Regents after they met Saturday to consider four finalists who had come to campus last week for public forums. A formal regents vote is set for Wednesday morning.

Martin said Sunday night that she feels honored to be selected and is thrilled to be joining the EMU community.

“I’m very willing to make a long-term commitment to stay and lead the campus toward a bright future,” she said.
