U-M Hospital ranks at top of safety survey
Some say its hard staying on top, but the University of Michigan Health System isn’t having any trouble doing it. U-M was just ranked as one of the nation’s top hospitals by the American Hospital Association.
There is yet another list out raving about Ann Arbor and its institutions. The latest by the American Hospital Association lists the University of Michigan Health System, a.k.a. U-M Hospital, as the provider of the highest-quality and safest healthcare in the U.S.
U-M came in second in the national competition to Munson Medical Center in Traverse City for the AHA-McKesson Quest for Quality Prize. The award recognizes hospitals that have strived to fulfill six quality and safety goals (such as health care should be safe, effective and efficient) laid out by the Institute of Medicine.
U-M was recognized for a number of different aspects of its care, such as strong nursing leadership and utilizing a strong collaborative/teamwork approach. Continual investment in the hospitals’ initiatives and infrastructure also played a key role.
This is not the first major accolade U-M Hospital has received. U.S. News and World Report ranked the U-M Hospital 13th best in the country overall, and 15 of its specialty care programs were among the top in the nation.
