Ann Arbor plans to continue West Stadium Blvd improvements this year and next

Ann Arbor plans to incorporate features friendly to non-motorized traffic when it starts to rebuild West Stadium Boulevard between Pauline and Main streets.

Long awaited improvements to Stadium Boulevard on Ann Arbor‘s west side are on the way this year and next. The city plans to reconstruct Stadium between Main and Pauline streets as part of the effort to enhance the main residential section of the corridor.

The city has been improving West Stadium since 2005, rebuilding the roadway and sewer lines. The improvements also made the thoroughfare friendlier for non-motorized traffic, such as pedestrians and bicyclists by rebuilding sidewalks, adding decorative lights, installing pedestrian islands and installing bike lanes. Many of those features will be included in the reconstruction projects set for this year and next.

The intersection at Pauline and West Stadium is set for reconstruction this fall. Stadium will also be rebuilt between
Pauline and Seventh Street next year. The city hopes to incorporate the section of Stadium in front of Pioneer High School, between Seventh and Main, in the 2009 project.

Stadium is a critical east-west artery in
Ann Arbor and one of the most heavily traveled corridors in the city. An average of about 20,000 vehicles travel it each day.
