Chrysler’s Proving Grounds considers wind turbines in Chelsea

Washtenaw County is jumping into the wind energy generation game. County officials are teaming up with Chrysler to explore the possibilities of putting up wind turbines on the Chrysler Proving Grounds just outside of Chelsea.

They’ll huff and they’ll puff…

Chelsea already has Chrysler cars zipping round and round, but the new little city just might get a bit more blustery as the car company considers adding the latest in alternative energy options: wind turbines.

Chrysler and Washtenaw County are testing the wind at Chrysler’s proving grounds near Chelsea to see if there is the potential to develop wind power there. Chrysler is paying half of the cost to put up a meteorological tower as part of its corporate strategy to incorporate more environmentally friendly initiatives into its business plan.

It will take about a year to determine whether the site is suitable for wind turbines. The project is part of the Washtenaw Wind Project, that is looking to develop wind-energy resources within the county.
