Before there was “Say Nice Things About Detroit” there was “Consider the Good of Ypsilanti First.” That was the motto of one of the city’s biggest advocates.

George C. Handy played a major role in the shaping of the character of the city of Ypsilanti. As the owner and publisher of The Ypsilanti Daily Press, Handy had a policy he defined as: “Consider the good of Ypsilanti first.”
