As Charles Foster Kane sits on his deathbed in the classic film “Citizen Kane,” only one word leaves his lips – Rosebud. Most people don’t whisper that word from their hospital bed, but if they new more about Ann Arbor-based Rosebud Solutions they just might.

Rosebud designs computer software for hospitals that helps their medical professionals work more efficiently. Although the new economy start-up was recently acquired by San Francisco-based McKesson, the company’s founders are assuring everyone that they are not only not leaving but expanding, and definitely not letting this moneymaker go up in smoke.

“We love this area,” says Alicia Torres, who co-founded Rosebud with her husband Frank Legacki. “We’re going to stay here and we’re going to keep growing here.

By growing she means more jobs. The healthcare technology company is in the process of hiring more staff and expects to add a few more positions in the future.

The firm started in San Antonio in 1997 shortly before the couple moved to Ann Arbor and set up shop. The couple chose Ann Arbor because Legacki attended the University of Michigan and fell in love with the college town. Both decided there wasn’t a better place to grow their company.

“We knew this would be a great place to start up a healthcare technology company,” Torres says.

A decade later, they’re cashing in.
