Startup weekend to help new entrepreneurs and their businesses take flight

A dozen new start-up companies will be ready to launch by the time Sunday rolls around. They will come from the Startup Weekend event which looks to make these new companies ready to roll after a marathon preparation session over the weekend.

How many people have seen a new website or a new business and thought, “Why didn’t I think of that?” Ideas so simple you kick yourself with envy.

Well, the Startup Weekend me be just for you. The Ann Arbor event will gather together nearly 100 business people of all stripes to create a dozen new start-up companies and make them ready for launch in one marathon weekend session.

It will go something like this: Business managers, start-up enthusiasts, marketing gurus, graphic artists and players yet to named will come together with a host of ideas for new companies. The attendees will vote on the top dozen and spend a 14-hour day Saturday and a 12-hour day Sunday developing them and getting them ready to launch.

Each participant of a project developed during the weekend will be a co-founder with an ownership interest in at least one honest-to-goodness startup.

The real idea behind the event is to show off how dynamic Ann Arbor is and how much talent resides in the area. It’s the ultimate extra-credit project, teaching entrepreneurs the methodology behind creating a business and the value of collaboration.
