Ypsi DDA seeks help to create a vision for central business district

The future is at stake for downtown Ypsilanti on Tuesday. Well, a bit of the near future at least. The city’s Downtown Development Authority will hold a meeting Tuesday evening to begin creating a five-year plan to improve the city’s central business district.

When asked about downtown Ypsilanti some people see a struggling downtown. Others see it as an up-and-coming area filled with opportunity. Regardless of what they see now, city officials are interested in hearing what local stakeholders would like to see downtown become at a community visioning session Tuesday evening.

They want to know what people like most and least about downtown, what changes they want to see and what kind of image they’d like to project in the future. The idea is create a five-year plan to transform downtown into the community’s pride and joy.

The
Ypsilanti Downtown Development Authority is working with the Michigan State Housing Development Authority and downtown revitalization consultants HyettPalma to create the plan. They hope to flesh out a more detailed plan throughout the year and use it as a basis for improving the central business district.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. in the
First United Methodist Church, 209 Washtenaw near North Washington St, in downtown. For information, call (734) 482-1410.
