Lansing’s TechSmith to open satellite office in Ann Arbor

If new economy companies aren’t moving to Ann Arbor they seem to being setting up satellite offices there. Toyota, Google and now add TechSmith to that list of names, which plans to open an office that employees between 10 and 20 people.

Although TechSmith specializes in cutting and pasting images from websites, the Okemos-based company is looking to cut and paste a few of its employees into Ann Arbor.

 

The new economy company is looking at setting up a satellite office in Ann Arbor for 10 to 20 of its employees that commute from Metro Detroit to its Lansing-area home. The 20-year-old firm employs 175 people and has 18 positions open now, ranging from software development to web designer.

 

TechSmith creates applications that allow users to capture, isolate and grab graphics or screen images. It’s most popular tool, SnagIt is estimated to be have nearly seven million users worldwide. It’s noteworthy for its ability to capture pieces of any screen image.

 

“You can cut out just the content you want,” says Jennifer E. Middlin, community relations manager for TechSmith. “We play well with all of the formats out there.”

 

And it’s playing well with profits, too. The company has experienced 25 to 50 percent annual growth over the last seven years. Middlin says the company expects that type of growth to continue and more positions to come with it as it grows.
