Enter the inflatable otherworldly environment of Amococo. Presented by Ann Arbor’s Summer Festival, it’s the coolest bounce house you’ve ever been in. Only there’s no bounce.
It’s like stepping into the otherworldy hive of some alien species. And given the wash of synth-based ambient music, an awfully mellow hive of aliens at that.
Amococo, created by UK’s Architects of Air, is a 10,000 square foot installation that transports visitors to an inflatable womb-like environment filled with color, and the dulcet tones of new age music. It’s an almost extraterrestrial experience that isn’t for the claustrophobic. Think of it as the coolest bounce house you’ve ever been in. Only there’s no bounce.
The downside? The trance Amococo seems to be lulling you into is quickly interrupted by other visitors. Then again, watching Ann Arbor’s older set bristle at the enthusiasm of wandering kids is almost as much fun.
Amococo is brought to you by the Ann Arbor Summer Festival. It opens to the general public today and runs until Sunday. It’s located at 401 Washtenaw, at the University of Michigan’s Palmer Field (across the street from Palmer Commons, in the center of the running track). Admission is $5
