Ann Arbor strives for energy efficiency with Energy Challenge Awards Program
As if Tree Town could become any greener, Ann Arbor found a new way with its Energy Challenge Awards Program. The program awards companies that become more energy efficient or utilize renewable energies. Winners receive a plaque, public recognition from the city and the added savings from using less energy.
The rewards for saving energy in Ann Arbor are about to become more than just extra pennies in the piggy bank. The city is hoping to add some positive public recognition to local businesses that achieve a high standard of energy efficiency or renewable energy use in their buildings through its Energy Challenge Awards Program.
The program is open to commercial projects (both new construction and renovations) that become more energy efficient or utilize renewable energy. Developments completed within the last three years are eligible to compete in the renewable energy and energy efficiency categories. Winners receive public recognition from the city and an Energy Challenge Award plaque for their building.
The program is part of Ann Arbor‘s Energy Challenge to achieve 20 percent renewable energy use community-wide by 2015. Participating projects will serve as examples of how energy efficiency and renewable energy are incorporated into Ann Arbor to help reduce energy costs and global warming emissions.
