Video What Is That Gallery

David and Leslie Austin aren’t just betting that an art scene is accessible and emerging in Ypsilanti, they are making it happen. The downtown What Is That gallery not only features hip, locally produced art, it also offers classes and talks. All hail the Ypsi renaissance!

As the name suggests, you won’t find snotty pretense at the What Is That Gallery. And you won’t just walk in, take a peek and head for the door either. A lot of what’s displayed at the gallery looks like your hip neighbor made it, and they probably did. Featured works from national and local artists alike come together in a fine arts school catalog explosion: quilted wall hangings, ceramics, jewelry, photography, wood sculpture, and paintings represent the incredible range of products. The price range too. Although some sculptures hit the $10,000 mark, the majority of works are under $1000, and much of that under $200.

Exhibits and talks are regular occurrences, and if you don’t like what you see, classes encourage you to do better. Click on the YouTube video below to become enlightened, enthralled and educated.
