Poetry Slams, The Moth Story Hour… entrepreneurs have a story to tell too. That's where the Entre-Slam comes in. Concentrate has asked its creators -Christa Chambers-Price and Jeanne Ballew- to explain why live storytelling is an important business skill and to hold a slam for us. Come be a judge or participate. There's a cash prize …and pickles! Sign up now for Thursday's event!
This month we’re trying something a little different with Concentrate’s speaker event… we’re making you a part of the program.
Since March Christa Chambers-Price and Jeannie Ballew have been hosting the monthly storytelling salon / competition Entre-SLAM. If you’re familiar with poetry slams or the MOTH Story Hour then you’re halfway to understanding the concept behind their event. Essentially, it’s a live storytelling competition centered around the exploits, inspiration or anecdotes of entrepreneurs.
The two partners believe that there’s both an art to and necessity for businesses to learn how to tell their stories and tell them well. It also helps that they know how to create a fun and entertaining evening. This is what’s been drawing crowds.
Ballew and Chambers-Price will be explaining their ideas about the power of storytelling with relation to entrepreneurship and then holding a mini-slam for those in attendence. And to make things interesting – Concentrate will be putting up a cash prize for the best tale told (as determined by audience judges).
Best of all, Al McWilliams, founder and owner of Quack! Media, will be pulling MC duties.
And like any good competition there’s a theme. The mavens of Entre-SLAM have picked: Dent in the Universe
Here’s their explanation. “The late Steve Jobs famously reminded us that “We’re here to put a dent in the universe”. So, how did you put your dent in the universe?
If you have a story you want to tell, please email events@entreslam.com and we’ll send you the guidelines. You’ll be going toe-to-toe with some of Entre-SLAM’s top winners from the 2012 season.
